Procedure for a commissioned Oil Portrait:
The first meeting:
Since creating a portrait is collaboration between the client and the artist. It is important to discuss the specifics of the painting, where the painting is going to be displayed, what the background setting should be, what type of clothing, and props are needed. After agreeing with terms and conditions an Agreement will be signed.
Photo shoot and selection:
Now a days it is very difficult for a subject to be available for live sittings, so I recommend that a photo shoot be scheduled and I would come to the location and take High Resolution photographs of the subject with proper lighting. This process may take all day.
Following the photo shoot, I will meet with the client to choose a few photographs that may reflect poses and ambiance that we discussed during the first meeting.
Approval and start of the portrait:
After the photo is chosen I will do a full size compositional drawing, so the client may see what the setting, and the finished portrait, will look like. After the satisfactory approval, I will start to complete the portrait. I keep the client well informed of the progress via the email, and attaching photographs taken while painting. The completion date varies from painting to painting, at this time however I should be able to estimate the approximate finish date.
Even though many may find this inconvenient, during the process, if possible, I would prefer to have minimum of two sittings with the client in my studio. One sitting would be at the start of the portrait, and the next sitting, would be towards the completion.
Framing and the delivery:
Once the painting is completed, the process of selecting the proper frame begins, the cost of the frame is the responsibility of the client, however I will help you select the best possible frame for the portrait, which will enhance and complement the portrait. I will make sure the delivery and hanging of the portrait is done under my supervision.
I Mohammad Mansoor look forward to talking with you and starting your next project.
